Grizzly Paw Brewery

Canadian Timberframes provided the timbers for this spectacular landmark recognized for its creativity, use of wood materials, ability to satisfy the client's building and the overall aesthetic appeal for the use and application of wood.

"The Brewery is a post-and-beam structure comprised of dimensional and glulam douglas fir timber. The timber structure is is mostly situated on the exterior and protected by wide overhangs. It supports the roof loads and secures the infill panels."

Why did the Grizzly Paw choose heavy timber frame construction over steel for this commercial/industrial project?

The project team chose heavy timber over a steel structure due to the cost effectiveness. Wood is a natural recyclable and renewable resource, it is LEED and Green built compatible and reduced their carbon footprint. Off-site pre-manufactured heavy timber frame allowed shorter construction times and maximized potential production. It was also a better fit to the Rocky Mountain style typical to this location. It produced a superior ambiance in the interior of the space - which has lead to more and more events being held within the space.

Winner in the Commercial and Institutional category of the Prairiewood Design Awards. The Canadian Wood Council published a case study on this exciting structure and story which can be found here.
