GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Canadian Timberframes is looking for someone who is passionate about creating quality timber products, and wants to help us grow. The primary accountability of this position is to build / frame pre-fabricated components and to finish and package timber products. Depending on experience, the successful candidate may also be called upon to train and lead others. As we are an expanding business, it’s important that the candidate be flexible to the changing needs of the business from day-to-day.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Execute instructions as per the drawings and shop traveler on all pre-fabrication and timber frame projects 
  2. Carry out finish work & connection details on timbers with hand and power tools
  3. Organize flow of material in the most efficient manner on current and upcoming projects
  4. Be pro-active in things like identifying the need for supplies and tools 
  5. Report any issues related to safety or reliability of shop power tools to the production supervisor
  6. Test fitting connections, checking timber cross sections and inspecting timbers for defects ensuring grades and visual qualities are met
  7. Carry out sanding, staining and end-sealing of timbers when required
  8. Assist in the packaging and shipping timber frame and material packages
  9. If placed as a more senior carpenter, lead by example and:
    • Provide training & coaching to junior carpenters regarding how to work with hand & power tools required for framing
    • Monitor the productivity of junior carpenters to maintain targets and quality standards
    • Ensure junior timber frame carpenters are working safely
  10. Clean work areas, machines, or equipment, to maintain a clean and safe work area
  11. Assist with internal special projects as required (i.e.; renovations, expansions and etc.)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The candidate must have studied carpentry at a recognized institution.

Must have 3 years of carpentry experience 

Must be a dynamic individual, demonstrating leadership and vision achieving company goals

Ideally have previous supervising experience

Ability to perform tasks with minimum supervision

Able to interpret technical drawings 

Must have a valid driver’s licence
