Hill Top Retreat

Read Hill Top Retreat's story

A homeowner with a vision of an upsized old style farmhouse using a heavy Douglas Fir timber frame was the only way for this home to go. The overall effect was one of strength and solidity - the timbers were scaled up to match the mass of the 10,500 square foot building. The Douglas fir logs were rough-sawn, burned and wire brushed prior to the stain & clear coat finish to achieve the rural appearance of the farmhouse style the client was looking to achieve.

There are 8 bedrooms, five utility rooms a large comfortable kitchen, a 3,000 square foot great room with a vast clear span of 40’ that serves as a music studio and an attached 2,000 square foot indoor pool, a lower level...

Blue Stone

This contemporary house mixes modern design and traditional materials with precision. One of the modern twists includes soaring Douglas fir rafters that project beyond the roof line; another important visual element is found in the home’s rear exterior. Instead of timber posts running perpendicular to the support beam, all vertical supports are in the shape of a “V,” which brings an unexpected design element to what is typically a simple structural element. The grand and inviting entrance, the clean lines & smooth interior timber finish adds to the sophisticated luxury of this spectacular home.

A dedicated crew raising in the snow, hitting the deadlines for this customer.  A great shot of a Scissor Truss raised into place.  A scissor truss eliminates vertical and horizontal elements. It creates a more spacious feeling, because there's no horizontal timbers defining a lower "virtual" ceiling line; this was the look and feel this homeowner was looking for. This type of truss is also appropriate when the ceiling pitch, or slope, isn't very steep. A shallow pitch, can still be quite spacious with this truss style.
